Payments & Payouts
The current, unpaid-out total of funds a program has raised but not yet received in its bank account.
Program balance is the current total of funds a program has raised that have cleared Stripe's processing but have not yet been transferred out in a payout. This figure sits between two other numbers a treasurer typically watches: total donations raised, the gross campaign total, and net proceeds actually received, what's landed in the bank account so far.
As a campaign runs, the program balance grows with each cleared donation and then decreases each time a payout is issued and funds move out to the program's bank account. Watching this number gives a treasurer a real-time sense of how much money is sitting, processed and ready, waiting for the next scheduled payout.
This is particularly useful for anticipating the size of an upcoming payout before it actually arrives. A treasurer checking the program balance a day or two before a scheduled payout date can get a reasonably accurate preview of what the next deposit will look like, rather than being surprised by the amount when it lands.
Program balance should not be confused with net proceeds already paid out; it specifically represents funds still in transit through the platform, not funds the program has already received and can currently spend.
Treasurers can use the program balance to anticipate the size of their next payout before it lands in the bank account.
