Donor & Participant Experience

QR Code Fundraising

A scannable code that donors can use with a smartphone camera to go directly to a campaign or participant's donation page.

What it means

QR code fundraising uses a scannable code, generated by HypeRaise and tied to a specific campaign or participant page, that a donor can scan with a smartphone camera to go directly to that donation page without needing to type a URL manually. This solves a specific, practical problem: getting someone from an offline moment, like seeing a printed flyer or event signage, into an online donation flow with as little friction as possible.

How it works on HypeRaise

QR codes are particularly useful for printed materials where typing a long URL isn't realistic: flyers posted around a school, signage at a concession stand or ticket table during a game, or handouts distributed at an event. A donor who might not bother typing out a web address later is much more likely to simply scan a code they're already looking at in the moment.

Key details

Because most smartphones can scan a QR code directly through the native camera app without needing a separate scanning app installed, the barrier to using this feature is essentially zero for the donor. They point their camera, tap the resulting link, and land directly on the relevant campaign or participant page ready to give.

This lowers the barrier to giving specifically at in-person events, where a donor standing at a game or concert is far more likely to act on impulse by scanning a code on the spot than to remember a URL and visit it later from home.

Why it matters for administrators

QR codes lower the barrier to giving at in-person events like games or concerts, where a donor is more likely to scan a code on the spot than type a link later.
