Fundraising Fundamentals
Two donation types: a flat donation is a single fixed payment, while a pledge donation is tied to a per-unit outcome, such as a per-lap or per-point amount.
HypeRaise supports two different ways a donor can commit money to a campaign: a flat donation and a pledge donation. Understanding the difference matters for programs running performance-based fundraisers such as fun runs, lap challenges, or game-based pledge drives, where the final amount owed isn't known until after the event happens.
A flat donation is the simpler and more common structure: the donor chooses an amount, pays it immediately, and the transaction is complete. Most campaign and participant page donations work this way.
A pledge donation instead commits the donor to a rate tied to a unit of performance, such as one dollar per lap completed, five dollars per point scored, or a set amount per mile run during an event. The final total isn't calculated until the event concludes and the actual performance number is known, at which point the donor is charged the resulting amount.
Both donation types live within the same campaign and participant structure, and both show up in the same reporting and payout process once finalized. The distinction only affects how and when the final dollar amount is determined and charged, not how the money is tracked or disbursed afterward. Programs running a fun run or similar event-based fundraiser can offer pledge donations alongside standard flat donations on the same campaign page, giving donors flexibility in how they want to support a participant.
Offering both formats lets programs run performance-based fundraisers, such as fun runs, while keeping the payment and reporting process identical to a standard campaign.
HypeRaise gives coaches, boosters, and parent volunteers the tools to run a centralized, transparent, and effective campaign.
