Roles & Organizations

Donor

The person making a financial contribution to a participant or campaign, typically a family member, friend, or local business.

What it means

A donor is the person making a financial contribution to a campaign or an individual participant's page. In a peer-to-peer fundraising context, donors are typically people with a personal connection to a participant: parents, grandparents, neighbors, family friends, or local businesses the family already has a relationship with, rather than strangers responding to a general public appeal.

How it works on HypeRaise

When a donor gives, HypeRaise records their name (unless they choose to give anonymously), the donation amount, the date, and which participant or campaign the gift supports. The donor also receives an automatic email receipt confirming their donation for their own recordkeeping.

Key details

Donor records are retained within the platform's reporting, which gives programs a documented history of who has supported a given campaign. This matters for two practical reasons: it supports personalized thank-you outreach beyond the automatic receipt, and it gives programs a starting point for future campaigns, since a donor who gave once is statistically more likely to give again if approached in a subsequent fundraising cycle.

Because donors can complete a gift through guest checkout without creating a HypeRaise account, the barrier to giving is intentionally kept low. This tends to support higher completion rates, particularly for one-time supporters who have no reason to want an ongoing account with the platform.

Why it matters for administrators

Donor records are retained in the platform's reporting, which gives programs a documented history for thank-you communication and future outreach.
